Judge Guten currently serves as a District Judge for the 14th Judicial District, which encompasses both Tulsa and Pawnee Counties.
Assigned to the Criminal Division, he oversees a felony trial docket and has served as Chief of the Criminal Division in both 2023 and 2024.
Judge Guten began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney, where he gained valuable courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the criminal justice system. He later entered private practice, dedicating almost 15 years to the representation of veterans, service members, and their families across a broad spectrum of legal matters. His work during this time reflected his strong commitment to serving those who have served our country.
In 2019, Judge Guten was appointed as a Special Judge for Tulsa County and was assigned to the Criminal Division. During his tenure, he presided over the Bond Docket, Initial Appearances and Arraignments, felony Preliminary Hearings, and the Court Cost Docket—critical stages in the criminal process where fairness and efficiency are paramount. In 2022, Judge Guten was elected to the District Court bench and assumed office in January 2023. He brings a balanced, experienced, and community-focused approach to the courtroom, guided by a commitment to justice, public safety, and service to the people of Tulsa County.
Judge Guten is a devoted father to four sons and a proud husband to his wife, Maura, a dedicated nonprofit leader who serves the community with passion and purpose. Together, they are deeply committed to family, service, and making a positive impact in the lives of others.
Guided by core values instilled during his military service — duty, integrity, and putting others first — Judge Guten brings these principles to every aspect of his life, from his relationships with family and friends to his service to country and community.
Born and raised in Tulsa, Judge Guten has spent his career working to protect and serve the citizens of Tulsa County. With decades of experience on both sides of the bench, he remains committed to protecting the principles of justice, promoting public safety, and advancing fairness and the rule of law.
Judge Guten has proudly served in the United States Air Force and the Oklahoma Air National Guard for over 20 years — a commitment that he continues to uphold today. As a combat veteran, he brings not only extensive experience and leadership but also a deep sense of responsibility, honor, and dedication shaped by his years of service.
His time in uniform has reinforced a lifelong belief in service before self — a guiding principle rooted in duty, loyalty, and moral courage. It is a standard that has shaped every aspect of his personal, professional, and military life.
