Experience matters.

Judge David Guten earned his Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Oklahoma City University, majoring in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Political Science. He graduated from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2003 and began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for Tulsa County. He subsequently spent nearly 15 years in private practice, concentrating on the legal needs of service members, veterans, and their families. During this period, he founded and served as managing partner of the Military Law Group in Tulsa. Also during this time, he served as Chair of the Tulsa County Bar Association’s Military and Veteran’s Law Committee where he remains an active member, as well as a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Military and Veteran’s Law Committee.


In 2019, Judge Guten was appointed as a Special Judge for the 14th Judicial District in Tulsa County, where he was assigned to the Criminal Division and presided over multiple criminal dockets. In 2022, he was elected to the District Court bench and assumed office in January 2023. He was appointed Chief of the Criminal Division for Tulsa County in both 2023 and 2024. Judge Guten approaches the bench with a balanced, experienced, and community-centered perspective, guided by an unwavering commitment to justice, public safety, and service to the citizens of Tulsa County.

In addition to his judicial responsibilities, 


Judge Guten is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and the Oklahoma Air National Guard, where he serves as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 137th Special Operations Wing at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma City. He received his direct commission in 2005 and completed Commissioned Officer Training and JAG School in 2006.


Judge Guten deployed in July 2008 and November 2009 as Assistant Staff Judge Advocate to the 601st Air Operations Center, supporting Operation Noble Eagle — a critical mission safeguarding U.S. airspace following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In 2014, he served as Staff Judge Advocate to the 1st Expeditionary Special Operations Wing, Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component in Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. With over 20 years of military service, Judge Guten continues to serve his country with honor and dedication.


With more than two decades of dedicated service to both his community and country, Judge David Guten possesses the experience, integrity, and commitment necessary to serve Tulsa County effectively as District Judge.
